Emma Nyra grew up in a family of four children and is the youngest of them all. Her parents are of Igbo descent and are from Delta State, Nigeria.

Emma Nyra spent most of her formative years in Texas, where she was raised by her mother. She attended Texas Southern University, where she studied Health Administration.
Career
Emma Nyra started her career as a model before venturing into music. In 2012, she signed a recording contract with Made Men Music Group, a Nigerian record label owned by Ubi Franklin and Iyanya Mbuk. She released her first single “Do It” in May 2012, featuring fellow label mate Iyanya.
