Early Life and Education
Lagbaja, whose real name is Bisade Ologunde, was born on September 9, 1960, in Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in Lagos, where he attended Ansar-Ud-Deen College, a secondary school where he discovered his love for music and started playing the trumpet.
After secondary school, Lagbaja studied Agricultural Science at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree.
Career
Lagbaja began his music career in the early 1990s, and his unique fusion of Afrobeat, Jazz, and Highlife soon gained him a following. He is known for his use of masks, which he says is a symbol of the facelessness of the oppressed and voiceless in society.
Over the years, Lagbaja has released several albums, including “Lagbaja” (1993), “C’est Une African Thing” (1996), “We” (2000), and “Paradise” (2009). In total, he has released over 15 albums in his music career.
