Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo was born on the 1st of January, 1960 in Gwarzo, Kano State, Nigeria. He grew up in a family of six and was raised in a Muslim home. He attended Gwarzo Primary School and later went to Government Secondary School, Gwarzo. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano in 1984 and later obtained his Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Lagos in 1990.
Career
Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo started his career as a lecturer at Bayero University, Kano in 1985. He later joined the Nigerian Foreign Service in 1991 and served in various capacities in Nigerian Embassies in different countries. In 2003, he was appointed as the Director of the African Affairs Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also served as the Director of the Consular and Immigration Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2006.
In 2007, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo joined politics and contested for the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and won. He was re-elected in 2011 and served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. In 2015, he contested for the Kano North Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and won. He was re-elected in 2019 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment.
