Hotboii Early Life
On June 13, 2000, Javarri Latre Walker was born in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in the westside Pine Hills area as one of 17 siblings. [3] He listened to musicians like Kodak Black, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Wayne. [2] He started rapping at the age of seven, and with his mother’s assistance, he started distributing music in 2016. He first uploaded songs SoundCloud and YouTube.
From 2016 to 2018, Walker participated in a two-year juvenile prison program for breaking and entering.
He made the decision to take his career more seriously at this point and continued to work on his songs when he was incarcerated for minor offenses.
Hotboii Music Career
Walker’s song “Switcharoo” had started to get some local notoriety just before he was imprisoned. [5] After his release in 2018, he started to release additional songs. His debut music video, for “Life of a Dog,” was released that September. [7] He released the track “YG’s” in 2019, which soon garnered popularity and was a “detailed stroll through [his] experiences and survival methods in the street.” Before releasing his breakthrough hit “Don’t Need Time” on April 27 in 2020, he began the year with obtaining features from Stunna 4 Vegas (“4PF Like Baby”) and Rylo Rodriguez (“Sick of Cell”). [5]
The piano-driven ballad, which was dedicated to his recently dead buddy Wolph, was much slower-paced and more introspective than his previous compositions. In just five months, the music video, which was recorded at Wolph’s burial, had 24 million views on YouTube and more than nine million listens on Spotify.
Following the murder of another one of Hotboii’s friends, Salaythis Melvin, by an Orange County sheriff’s officer earlier that month, a remix with Lil Baby and a new song video that addressed the issue of police violence were released on August 25.
On May 22, 2020, Hotboii released his debut mixtape, Kut Da Fan On. It included Plies, LPB Poody, Rico Cartel, and 438 Tok as well as earlier successes including “Don’t Need Time,” “YG’s,” and “Goat Talk.”
He wrote several of the songs while he was enrolled in the juvenile incarceration program. [12] On the album, he “came into his own by perfecting his combination of heartbreaking street tales and snappy punchlines,” according to Pitchfork[13] and Audiomack, who both praised it as “41 hyper-realistic and melodious minutes of modern hip-hop greatness.
” [12] He obtained a feature from Polo G on “Goat Talk 2,” the follow-up to the original, which by that point had grown to be one of his most well-known songs, after releasing several music videos.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded “Don’t Need Time” Platinum and Gold certifications in April 2021 and July 2022, respectively.
He released his debut album Double O Baby on December 11, 2020, featuring Lil Mosey, Toosii, and Pooh Shiesty.
Continuing the topic from his last album, tracks like “Police Brutality,” “Malcolm X,” and “Problems (No Rights)” spoke about issues affecting the African-American community in the wake of the recent George Floyd demonstrations, particularly the police shooting of Floyd’s friend Salaythis Melvin. Switcharoo music is one of his track.
His “masterful flow and soul-baring narrative” on the record were complimented by Elevator Mag. Later that month, he participated in the webcast of Rolling Loud’s “Home for the Holidays,” which was hosted by Rick Ross.
After the release of “Fuck Shit” in February 2021, Hotboii made a comeback on May 28 with the song and music video for “Nobody Special,” which featured Future. From July 23 to July 25, 2021, Hotboii was slated to perform at Rolling Loud Miami.
