Early Life and Education
Abati was raised in a Christian family and attended the University of Calabar, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts. He later obtained a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Lagos and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in English from the University of Ibadan.
Career
Abati started his career as a journalist and worked for several Nigerian newspapers, including The Guardian, The Sun, and ThisDay. He was appointed as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, in 2011. He served in this position until 2015.
Abati has also written several books, including “The Last Days at Forcados High School” and “Naija No Dey Carry Last: Thoughts on a Nation in Progress.”
