Sho Madjozi, whose real name is Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif, was born on May 9, 1992, in Shirley Village, Elim, Limpopo, South Africa. She grew up in the village where her parents were both underpaid teachers. Her mother is of African descent and her father is of European descent.

Education

Madjozi attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Thohoyandou for her primary education. She then attended high school at Craigieburn Secondary School in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, where she was part of the drama club.

Madjozi later received a Bachelor’s degree in African Studies and Political Science from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, United States.

Career

Madjozi started her career as a writer and rapper, but she eventually transitioned to being a singer. In 2017, she released her debut single “Dumi HiPhone” which quickly became a viral hit in South Africa.

Her career took off in 2018 with the release of her debut EP “Limpopo Champions League”. The EP featured the hit songs “Huku” and “Wakanda Forever” which earned her praise across South Africa and internationally.
